About Downtown Eastside Hope

Downtown Eastside Hope is a registered Canadian non-profit organization, corporation number 1377097-4. We provide clothing, sanitary products, first-aid kits, and information support to people who live and work in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

The neighbourhood has been reshaped by gentrification, and low-income residents have carried most of the cost. As rents have climbed, many people who once had housing here no longer do.

Governments at every level have committed to addressing homelessness, and much of that work is necessary. But programs take time to reach people, and many fall through the gaps in the meantime. That gap is where we work.

We believe a just community in the Downtown Eastside is one that meets everyone’s basic survival needs, and that improving conditions here is a shared responsibility rather than someone else’s job.
